“What About Us” is the first piece in a series Cyan worked on dedicated to the Palestinian people. It is a found image of two children, who they have assumed to be siblings, holding each other. It is printed on a thin sheet of glass using a gelatin and cyanotype mixture. Seeing this photo and then printing it almost brought Cyan to tears.
“Lace for Those Lost” is the second in a series of art Cyan dedicated to the Palestinian people who have lost their lives during the genocide taking place across the globe. It is composed of a found image of a small child in distress being held by her mother and is printed on an old knit doily to symbolize the age of the 76 year occupation of Palestine.
Cyan started this series of work because the only way they know how to discuss and process traumatizing, horrific events in the world is through art. It is not meant to be trauma porn or an infantilization of destructive, devastating events happening in Palestine. They hope this work sparks thoughts and meaningful conversation around world events.
Both piece have been sold at charity auctions with funding going towards Palestinian families in need.
